If you shop at the Walmart in Royse City, it's getting a remodel. Walmart filed plans with the state to update the Supercenter at 494 W. Interstate 30 and make it bigger. Here's what the filing says, and what it doesn't say yet.

Store basics: The Royse City Walmart Supercenter is at 494 W. Interstate 30, Royse City, TX 75189. For hours, check the Walmart app or the store page on walmart.com.

What is planned

The project is called "Walmart Py27 Remodel 5987." Store 5987 is the Royse City Supercenter. The state filing lists:

  • Work: an inside and outside remodel, plus 2 expansions of the store
  • Area: about 38,563 square feet of the store
  • Estimated cost: $3,185,408
  • Scheduled start: January 10, 2027
  • Scheduled finish: April 29, 2027
  • Owner: Wal-Mart Real Estate Business Trust
  • Filed: September 11, 2026

That filing is with TDLR. It is the Texas office that checks building plans for things like access for people with disabilities. In Texas, building projects that cost $50,000 or more have to be filed there.

More room for pickup and delivery

The Royse City Herald-Banner reported that the plans include changes to the sales floor. They also said part of the new space will support the store's Online Pickup & Delivery work. If you use pickup, that's the part to watch.

Will the store stay open?

We do not know yet. The state filing does not say if the store will stay open during the work. I have not seen Walmart say anything about this store yet. If you shop there in early 2027, check the Walmart app for store hours before you go.

The drones are already here

This is not the first upgrade at this store. The Royse City Council approved a permit for drone delivery at 494 W. I-30 in March 2025. Walmart and Zipline started drone delivery here in December 2025. The Herald-Banner said people who live near the store can get orders up to 5.5 pounds, in as little as 30 minutes. If you live close by, you may be able to recieve small orders that way.

What we do not know yet

  • If the store will stay fully open during the work
  • Which departments will move
  • Any change to store hours
  • If the dates will hold. Filing dates are plans, not promises.
